Pirelli Elect tires have passed more than 500 homologations

Tires Pirelli with the Elect marking have been homologated over 500 times in the original equipment sector since their debut in 2019, and are now used by 70% of premium and luxury car manufacturers, the tire company's press service reported.

"Electric cars are significantly different from traditional cars with internal combustion engines, which is why they require special tires," said Piero Misani, Pirelli's technical director, adding that "modern development tools, such as virtual modeling and artificial intelligence technologies, allow us to create products that optimally meet the technical and operational characteristics of electric vehicles."

Pirelli Elect tires have a number of advantages, for example, low rolling resistance can increase the range by 50 km (Pirelli Scorpion tires with and without the Elect marking were compared, installed on the Volkswagen ID.4), which in Europe means a cost savings of 150 euros per year with an average annual mileage of 15,000 km. In addition, special rubber compounds increase traction when exposed to the increased torque of electric motors, and wear resistance is improved by 20% (according to the test results of the Pirelli Scorpion Zero All Season Plus 3 Elect). The tires also have a reinforced design, and the reduction in noise in the car cabin can be up to 20% (Scorpion and Scorpion Elect tires were compared when installed on the Audi e-tron, and the noise decreased by an average of 0.6-0.8 dB).

For the first time, the Elect technology was used in the creation of P Zero tires for the first generation of the Porsche Taycan, and now Pirelli is increasingly using it in the production of tires from its key lines. Most often, manufacturers of luxury and sports cars choose the same P Zero Elect tires, which, according to the manufacturer, combine a high level of grip with improved comfort, and are available in the largest number of sizes. The Elect marking is also used for touring Cinturato and Scorpion tires for SUVs. In addition, supplies of Pirelli Elect all-season and winter tires are growing.
