What tire sizes are Chinese cars equipped with on the Russian market

About one-third of passenger cars from Chinese brands registered in Russia are equipped with 18-inch diameter tires, reports the agency "Autostat".

It is noted that as of July 1, 2024, 1.86 million passenger cars from China were registered in the Russian Federation, and 31.6% of them were equipped with 18-inch diameter tires. 21% had 17-inch tires, followed in popularity by 19 and 16-inch tires (10.6 and 10.2%, respectively). In addition, 7.4% of cars are equipped with 20-inch diameter tires, 4.2% with 14-inch tires, and 1.7% with 21-inch tires.

In the press service of "Cordiant" noted to the publication Autonews that new Chinese cars are "problematic" because they have rare tire sizes that are not yet produced in Russia. This is also stated in Pirelli, and, as noted by the director of communications and sustainable development of the Russian division of the company Georgy Bozhedomov, "in certain sizes, for example, for new Chinese cars, there may be a weak representation of studded winter tires".

"In this winter season, we are seeing an increased demand for studded tires of certain sizes used on Chinese cars. This is due, first of all, to the change in the structure of new car sales, where more than half of the cars sold are represented by Chinese brands", he noted, adding that "while buyers have the opportunity to choose winter tires for all popular car models".
