Sensata Technologies and Nira Dynamics collaborate on tire tread depth monitoring solution
A new collaboration between Sensata Technologies and Nira Dynamics aims to create a reliable and accurate virtual sensor system for tire depth monitoring (TDM) for automotive OEM manufacturers.
The system is expected to optimize tire condition, enhancing safety, efficiency, and vehicle uptime. Building on Nira Dynamics' software for estimating tread wear, the solution will provide drivers, fleets, and OEMs with alerts for tire replacement due to low tread depth.
The virtual sensor works by collecting and fusing data from multiple existing vehicle sensors, including Sensata's tire pressure sensors, to provide accurate tire wear information. Using a sophisticated algorithm, the software-based system can track the reduction in tread depth, compensating for real-world environmental factors.
The TDM solution can be integrated into existing vehicle ECUs and is designed to work with multiple tire and vehicle configurations, allowing OEMs to deploy the software without developing custom software.
By combining Sensata Technologies' expertise in automotive sensors and embedded software development with Nira Dynamics' cloud-based software development, the partnership hopes that the latest TDM system will add additional safety and maintenance capabilities to Sensata's existing tire safety products.
