Sailun to boost capacity at former Bridgestone plant in China
The company Sailun, which recently acquired the closed Bridgestone plant for the production of truck tires in Shenyang (Liaoning, China) for $37 million, plans to invest almost $240 million in its expansion, which will increase production volumes to 3.3 million truck tires and 20,000 tons of OTR tires per year.
The annual capacity of the Bridgestone plant, which had been unprofitable since at least 2022 and was closed in 2024 due to an "unfavorable market environment", was 1.7 million tires. In the first stage, which is planned to be implemented within nine months, the plant's capacity will increase to 2 million truck tires per year, and after another similar period, production volumes will be increased by an additional 1.3 million truck tires, and the production of tires for construction, agricultural and mining equipment will begin. All products will meet Chinese, American and European standards.
It is expected that after the expansion of production, the plant's staff will be increased to 1590 people, of which about 1050 will be directly employed in production.
In 2025, Sailun not only acquired the Bridgestone plant, but also opened new facilities in Mexico and Indonesia, and announced that it will localize production in Egypt.
