Russian tires for the MC-21 airliner have passed certification

The Altai Tire Plant announced that the tires for the Russian airliner MC-21 have received a Certificate of Conformity of Component Products (SGKI), which is the result of several years of work and will allow the aircraft to be equipped with domestically produced tires.

The development of tires for the front and main struts of the landing gear (770x240-R356 and 1260x450-R556, respectively) began in 2020, and the first type of tire successfully passed bench tests in 2024, and the second type in 2025. Part of the certification tests were conducted in China, and all checks were passed on the first try.

According to Denis Gudashov, the chief designer of "YASHZ Avia" (part of the Altai Tire Plant), a new and most responsible stage is now beginning: PJSC "Yakovlev", the developer of the aircraft, is starting flight tests of the tires on the MC-21. When this process is completed, the tires will be assigned a serial letter, and they can be launched into mass production.

In the Altai Tire Plant, it is noted that this project has strategic importance, as the process of implementing the Comprehensive Program for the Development of Civil Aviation (CPGA) has been launched.

"The Russian government's plans to produce 270 MC-21-300 aircraft by 2030 now have a solid foundation. The entire future fleet of these modern aircraft will be equipped with domestically produced tires with the marking "Made in Altai", which directly ensures the safety and independence of Russian airlines," the company says.
