Rosstat has published a report on the socio-economic situation in Russia in 2025, which states that the production of tires for passenger cars in the country decreased by 20.7% in the reporting period, to 28.1 million units. In December, 1.5 million tires of this type were produced, which is 41.5% less compared to the same period last year.

The production volumes of tires for trucks, buses, and trolleybuses also decreased, with 4.494 million units produced last year, and a decline of 24%. In December, Russian plants produced 245,000 tires for vehicles of this category, reducing production by 35.3% compared to the last month of 2024.

The smallest decrease in annual production was recorded in the segment of tires for agricultural machinery - by 6%, to 920,000 units. At the same time, 60,000 agricultural tires were produced in December, and the output decreased by 33.5% year-on-year.

According to the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies (operator of the "Honest Sign" marking), last year in Russia, tires worth 167 billion rubles were sold, which is 1.7% less than in 2024, but in physical terms, sales decreased by 9.7%. The average cost of one tire almost did not change (growth of 0.1%) and amounted to 7,660 rubles.

As noted by Ekaterina Guseva, Director of the Marketing Department of the Cordiant holding, whose words are quoted by Vesti.ru with reference to RBC, the domestic tire industry was affected by factors such as high credit rates, a decrease in demand for new cars, and a late spring, but primarily, the reason for the low load of Russian plants is the large volumes of imports. The same opinion was expressed by Pirelli, which stated that due to the expansion of foreign suppliers, "local capacities of the country's tire industry, sufficient to meet the entire internal demand, were loaded by little more than half".

Pirelli added that Asian brands are actively strengthening their positions in Russia, including due to the strong ruble exchange rate, which increases the competitiveness of imported products, and auto expert Alexei Ivanov believes that the share of Chinese tires in the domestic market has grown from 31% in 2024 to 35-40% depending on the segment.
