Sales of passenger car tires in the RF have grown by almost a third
In January-May 2024, the Russian market for passenger car tires grew by 27% to 52.8 billion rubles, reports "Kommersant" with reference to data from CRPT - the operator of the "Honest Sign" labeling system. In terms of product units, sales increased by 20% (in May, a decline of 44% was recorded compared to April, which is due to the end of the tire replacement season).
CRPT adds that the average price of a passenger car tire in the Russian market in May 2024 was 5.8 thousand rubles (9.8% higher than a year ago), and the most popular were tires with a price "below average" with a share of 46%. The least in-demand were tires with a price "above average", whose share was around 24%. On average, in January-May, the average cost of a passenger car tire in the Russian Federation was 6.2 thousand rubles.
Imports of passenger car tires grew in May 2024 by 55.4% to 1.8 million units, and in January-May by 38.4% to 11.4 million units. The peak of deliveries was recorded in March, after which they began to decrease. Mainly, summer tires were imported (72% of the import volume), and in May, 1.3 million units were delivered, which is 83.5% higher than a year earlier.
Russian tire production grew in January-May by 19.2% to 18.8 million units. The production of passenger car tires increased by 27.1% to 14.7 million units. At the same time, the production of truck tires decreased by 10.5% to 1.9 million units. Earlier, the Ministry of Industry and Trade noted that they expect a 5% increase in tire production in Russia by the end of 2024.
According to Sergey Udalov, Executive Director of the analytical agency "Autostat", the market will continue to grow in the second half of the year, when drivers will switch from summer to winter tires. "The market for new cars continues to grow compared to last year, including in the summer period, when cars are bought without a winter set. This will give an opportunity for winter tire sales to increase in the same range as the dynamics of the car market," he noted.
