Winter Long-Term Parking Rules
There are cases when you intentionally or due to circumstances leave your car for a long stay. A car, in principle, does not tolerate long parking well, but the tires can suffer the most. Today, we will try to provide a number of recommendations to avoid damaging the tires if you leave your car without movement for a long time.
Professional "winter tires" - car owners who operate a car only in the summer season, often resort to "hanging" the car. This is the installation of the car on special supports that completely eliminate contact between the tires and the surface. But for such manipulations, at least a garage is needed. If you don't have one and you are forced to leave your car on the street, then first of all, you should pay attention to the internal pressure. Under no circumstances should you allow low pressure. This can lead to irreparable damage in the form of deformations of the metal breaker layers. To guarantee avoidance of this, it is recommended to increase the internal pressure by 0.2 BAR relative to the norm recommended by the car manufacturer before parking.
No less important is to correctly start operating the car after a long stay. The movement should be started very smoothly, and the first 80-100 meters should be driven at a speed not exceeding 20 km/h. Then you can continue driving in the usual mode, but it is important to pay attention to how the tires behave. You may feel slight vibrations. First of all, pay attention to the condition of the disks. Often, it happens that ice can accumulate on the inner shelf of the disk. If it is absent, then most likely, the tires have not yet taken their previous shape and deformations are still present.
In this case, it is necessary to conduct a run-in of the tires at an increased pressure of up to 3.5-4 BAR. But it is important to observe safety regulations. Tires with damage may not withstand such pressure, so the pumping should be done in a tire center.
Of course, it is necessary to determine what is considered a long stay. The period during which the above recommendations should be followed can be taken as 3 months. But if the pressure in the tires is below normal or is completely absent, then even a much shorter period of time can be harmful - less than a month.
