Useful winter habits
Cold weather is approaching confidently, which means you should adapt your driving style to "winter". You should constantly expect ice. This is especially relevant when exiting a courtyard, as a rule, it is on this section that there is a constant risk of ice formation. In addition, you should not only adapt your driving style, but also develop "winter habits" that will never be superfluous and will significantly reduce the risk of damaging your tires.
1. In winter, it is simply necessary to have a pressure gauge, but with a big caveat.
First of all, you should take into account that at low temperatures, the pressure decreases by approximately 0.2 bar. That's why it's recommended to increase the recommended pressure by 0.2 bar during the frost. Two conclusions follow from this:
- regularly check the pressure, especially in the cold.
- take into account that when starting to move, the pressure is always lower than normal. The tires need to warm up to normalize the working pressure.
If you avoid problems with pressure during the winter period, you can avoid a very common problem — damage to the tire's hermetic layer.
2. Always expect a large amount of snow around the car. Snow removal equipment can significantly complicate your exit, creating high snow drifts around the car. In such cases, of course, the best solution is a shovel, but not everyone has one, in which case it's essential that your tires are ready for deep snow. In addition, snow is an extremely unstable substance, and you should always park and consider a larger gap with parked and passing cars when driving.
3. In addition to tire-related issues, you should pay attention to how much the salon of your car is heated before parking. If possible, it's always better to cool the salon by opening the doors for a few minutes. In this case, due to the slight temperature difference, the windows will not freeze or will freeze, but not significantly. And, of course, if your region promises a severe winter, it's not superfluous to have a charged starter for emergency start. In this case, you cannot be caught off guard by a suddenly dead battery.
