Why can a white coating appear on tires?

Everyone knows what color the tire should be, but sometimes car owners notice that brand new tires have a white coating in the form of a thin wax film, usually on the sidewalls and in the shoulder area of the tire. Removing this coating is not so easy, it is much simpler to roll it off if you rub it for a long time. How much does this say about the quality of the tire? Could it be scratches or dirt received during transportation or a chemical reagent?

Of course, this is not the case. The tire is in perfect order. Today we will tell you the reasons for the appearance of this coating on tires.

When a tire blank is assembled at the factory, the next and final stage of production is vulcanization in a mold. At this stage, the plastic rubber becomes elastic, which we are used to. The vulcanization process involves intense heat and prolonged pressure, after which the tire is removed from the mold. At the same time, for better separation of the finished tire, the mold is lubricated, just like when cooking in the kitchen. Despite the fact that all manufacturers have different production processes, excess lubricant can be found on the first few hundred tires. The most interesting thing about this is that the change in the color of the lubricant occurs not immediately, but over time. Thus, the tire can have a specific white coating.

The second possible factor may be that the manufacturer adds additives to the rubber compounds to protect against sunlight, ozone, precipitation, and other environmental factors that destroy the tire. These additives can have a basis in the form of oils, waxes, and many other components that can also change color on the surface of the tire over time.

Despite the fact that many people may not like this coating, we do not recommend removing it from the surface of the tire. In addition to wasting time in vain, it performs a protective function, and excess materials will disappear over time on their own, and the tire will acquire a natural matte-black color, ensuring years of trouble-free service.
