Road plates made from recycled tires by the "Nanotechnology Center of Composites" from the Moscow Technopolis SEZ have been successfully used in the Far North. The plates are designed to organize access for heavy equipment to construction and production sites and replace concrete products. This was told by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry Maxim Liksutov.

"At the instruction of the Mayor of Moscow, the city is actively supporting industrial enterprises that develop high-tech products," he noted. "For example, the resident of the Moscow Technopolis SEZ produces road plates from recycled car tires. With their help, a temporary road section for the passage of heavy equipment was quickly organized at the North-Soleninsky gas condensate field".

According to him, "the products not only successfully fulfilled their direct purpose but also preserved the top layer of soil from the destructive effects of wheels and caterpillars", and the SEZ resident is capable of producing up to 80,000 mobile road plates per year.

It is also reported that the NCC development is suitable for repeated use and has a lower mass and better strength characteristics compared to standard products: with a size of 4x2 meters, the plate weighs only 950 kg, but, as noted, easily withstands even the turnover of caterpillar equipment weighing over 110 tons.

Experimental-industrial tests of the plates at the gas condensate field were organized jointly by Norilskgazprom JSC, NCC LLC, and the Innovative Engineering Center ANO. As NCC told, the plates were laid directly on the surface of the tundra soil without prior leveling of the base, after which heavy equipment was launched on them: a loaded dump truck, a front loader, a caterpillar excavator, and a pipe layer. The operators of the equipment imitated standard operations, that is, passages, turns, and pipe laying.

"The use of NCC plates made it possible not only to quickly organize a road section and a production site but also to preserve the top layer of soil from the destructive effects of wheels and caterpillars," the company emphasizes.

According to Alexey Rannev, Deputy General Director of NCC, the company's products are "the only mobile road coatings in Russia made from rubber crumb - a product obtained during the processing of car tires. The use of such material not only allows solving the problem of disposal but also gives the plates unique properties: elasticity, which allows smoothing out relief differences, high strength, and the highest friction coefficient among analogs: wheels and caterpillars do not slip, even if the surface of the plates becomes wet".

First Deputy General Director of the Innovative Engineering Center ANO Dmitry Vagin adds that "the processing of used tires into mobile road coatings (MDC) is a comprehensive solution that combines environmental responsibility and economic benefits". "MDC, created for repeated use even in the most complex landscapes and remote locations, provide reliable operation throughout the year," he said.

The MCC also reports that "the use of MDC makes it possible to preserve the natural soil layer, which is especially important in the Arctic conditions", and besides, the processing of tires makes it possible to create valuable raw materials for various sectors of the industry, and the Innovative Engineering Center ANO "sees great potential for the development of this technology in the Norilsk Industrial District".

NCC is engaged in the development and production of products from polymeric composites for various application areas, which are supplied to more than 60 regions of Russia.
