First records on new Pirelli slicks
16 december 2009
New Pirelli tires P Zero Racing Slicks were introduced quite recently, but the pilots of the GMG Racing team have already achieved impressive results with their help.
During qualifying, GMG managed to overtake their closest rivals by a whole three seconds, after which the team won the Porsche Owner's Club Racing Weekend at the Willow Springs Raceway. At the same time, the Porsche 997 WC Cup, shod in Pirelli tires, set a new record in the Cup class - 1:19.7. Pilot and co-owner of GMG James Sofronas is a newcomer to the Pirelli Motorsport team, but after excellent performances in the BMW CCA (Car Club of America) Club Race CM Class and Willow Springs, he immediately became a loyal fan of Pirelli tires.
"We first installed Pirelli slicks on our WC-class car," Sofronas said. "We were again the first in qualifying, with a gap of three whole seconds."
Sofronas led from the start of the race, showed the same time as in qualifying, and set a new track record.
"Pirelli have once again proven that they make the best tires in the world!", Sofronas concluded.
