Pirelli to suspend production in Britain

Pirelli will temporarily halt production at two of its UK plants — in Carlisle and Burton upon Trent. It is noted that the reason was the market situation, and the BBC links Pirelli's decision to a cyberattack on Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), which affected the company's car production.

About 1,200 people work at Pirelli's plants, and the company emphasizes that the "pause is necessary to bring production volumes in line with market conditions," adding that this is only a temporary measure.

"Pirelli continues to invest in local production and recognizes the strategic importance of the UK market," the company said.

According to estimates by the UK's Cyber Monitoring Centre (CMC), the cyberattack on JLR affected around 5,000 companies. Last month, the UK government pledged to provide JLR with a £1.5 billion loan guarantee to support its supply chain. The government notes that it has taken measures to provide JLR with cybersecurity expertise and continues to work with the company, "closely monitoring the supply chain".

"We recognize JLR's role in supporting tens of thousands of jobs across the country, and the phased restart will be a positive step for both the company and its extensive supply chain," the government emphasized.
