Pirelli has equipped the McLaren W1 with the first supercar tyres made from 50% sustainable materials
Pirelli has equipped the new McLaren W1 supercar with three exclusive tires, made from 50% bio-based and recycled materials, as certified by Bureau Veritas. The tires – P Zero R, P Zero Trofeo RS, and P Zero Winter 2 – were specifically developed by Pirelli in collaboration with McLaren.
The project involved close cooperation between the R&D teams of both companies from the earliest stages of development and testing. Starting with a virtual environment, supported by simulation technology, engineers moved on to physical testing to evaluate the tire's characteristics in various weather conditions and on different surface types. Testing took place at locations such as the Nardò circuit in southern Italy, the Idiada track in Spain, and the Pirelli Sottozero center in Sweden.
