Omni United introduced EV tire development strategy
Singapore-based tire manufacturer Omni United has unveiled plans for its electric vehicle (EV) tire production strategy.
Omni United aims to transition to a more environmentally friendly future through sustainable driving and the continued production of the Radar brand tire with zero carbon emissions. The recently announced strategy is divided into two phases: the first phase will see the release of EV-compatible tires, while the second phase will see the launch of a dedicated EV tire line.
The EV-compatible tires released in the first phase will be specially designed to provide lower rolling resistance for increased vehicle range, as well as a wear-resistant compound to reduce wear caused by the EV's instantaneous high torque. The tire's braking and handling characteristics on wet roads also contribute to increased safety for drivers and passengers.
The EV-compatible tires will be based on existing Radar Tyre platforms and will include an all-season line for the North American market and a high-performance summer line for Europe and Asia. These lines are currently undergoing testing and are scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2023.
In the second phase, Omni will launch a line of EV tires under the Radar brand, designed in collaboration with Italian automotive design house GFG Style. In accordance with the specific requirements of EVs, this tire line will provide reduced rolling resistance and increased load-carrying capacity to combat the weight of EV batteries.
