Nokian will lead a new scientific project

Nokian Tyres will lead a new research project called Futureproof, aimed at helping to address the challenges of creating future mobility through new solutions in areas such as the digitalization of tires and traffic, reducing the environmental impact of tire products throughout their life cycle, and developing advanced manufacturing technologies.

The project is planned to be implemented over five years with the participation of representatives from various industries, and the financing of 20 million euros is provided by Business Finland, a government organization that invests in innovation development. An additional 50 million euros will be invested in creating the project's ecosystem, which is expected to include more than 100 partners.

“The Futureproof program is designed to help address challenges such as climate change and the growing vulnerability of global supply chains through new innovations,” said Paolo Pompei, President and CEO of Nokian. “The project will benefit both Nokian Tyres and our ecosystem partners, as well as drivers”.

It is expected that research expenditures will increase significantly during the project, and Nokian also says that the new program will create hundreds of new jobs in Finland by 2034.

“The results of cooperation with partners can range from an innovative version of the technology used in tire manufacturing to a new business opportunity for the mobility sector,” added Pompei. “Together, we can address new challenges, and an inter-industry ecosystem is necessary to find solutions”.
