Nokian introduced a new summer tyre

Nokian Tyres has announced the launch of a new summer passenger car tyre, the Nokian Powerproof E, developed for Central and Southern European markets and achieving the highest A rating in the EU tyre label across all three parameters: fuel efficiency, wet grip, and external rolling noise.

The new tyre has earned the AAA rating across all available sizes. Tommi Alhola, Senior Vice President at Nokian Tyres responsible for passenger car tyre development in Central Europe, emphasized that “no matter what drivers prioritize—maximum range and energy efficiency or comfort—safety must never be compromised. These new tyres are designed to deliver all the key performance characteristics that truly matter to drivers.”

Samu Lepistö, Development Manager at Nokian Tyres, added that “achieving an A rating across all three parameters and in every size is a significant accomplishment. All these criteria are highly important to modern drivers, but improving one often comes at the expense of others. This new tyre, however, has been engineered with a clear focus on achieving a balanced performance.”

The new Nokian tyres are built using Motion Control Technology, meaning the tread pattern, rubber compound, and overall construction are optimized to enhance energy efficiency and wet grip, while also delivering increased strength and durability. Additionally, depending on the tyre size, 40.9–42.8% of the materials used are recycled or renewable, including silica derived from rice husk ash, as well as recycled carbon black and steel.

The tyres will be produced at the Oradea plant in Romania, opened in 2024 and recognized as the industry’s first full-scale manufacturing facility with zero carbon dioxide emissions, operating exclusively on renewable energy—verified by an independent third party. The new model will launch ahead of the 2027 summer season in sizes ranging from 16 to 20 inches in diameter, and will be suitable for passenger cars, crossovers, and SUVs, including hybrid and electric vehicles.
