Nokian updates summer lineup

Nokian Tyres has announced that, alongside the Nokian Powerproof E (details here), it will launch another summer tyre model in Central and Southern Europe, named the Nokian Wetproof 2, which "retains the high performance of the Wetproof 1 tyres while surpassing them in terms of economy, durability, and comfort."

According to Jouko Ilomäki, Development Manager at Nokian, the new model follows the same concept as the previous generation: "The tread pattern and rubber compound have been designed to ensure reliable grip, stable handling, and predictable driver feedback when driving on wet roads."

"At the same time, changes to the tread geometry and mass distribution have improved wear uniformity, reduced rolling resistance, and lowered noise levels. As a result, we've created a tyre that ensures excellent handling and comfort under a wide range of summer driving conditions," he added.

The Wetproof 2 tread pattern has been updated to ensure effective performance and shorter braking distances in the rain, while also guaranteeing full vehicle control in everyday driving. In addition, the optimised contact patch shape promotes more even wear, and Nokian emphasises that the tyres maintain consistent performance throughout their entire service life.

The Wetproof 2 will be available in the most common sizes for family cars, while the Powerproof E line will primarily include sizes for larger-diameter wheels.

As the company states, the new tyre from the Wetproof family is intended for drivers who value reliable grip during daily driving, especially in variable weather conditions. In the European tyre label system, it has received an A rating for wet grip, B/C for energy efficiency, and A/B for external noise (the Powerproof E earned an A rating across all three categories).
