Nexen Expands Use of AI

Nexen Tire has announced that it is implementing ChatGPT Enterprise, the corporate version of the AI-based chatbot, across all its divisions, noting that the expansion of AI use will accelerate the company's digital transformation and improve the efficiency of new product development processes.

Employees are expected to use generative AI to perform their core tasks, such as data search and analysis, document creation, and more. Last month, over 1,000 management and research staff members at Nexen in Korea underwent training on ChatGPT Enterprise, and the company says it aims to create an environment where agent AI performs tasks and interacts with personnel.

Nexen is actively using AI and big data technologies in its research and development process, and in 2020, it developed an AI-based tire noise prediction system, and in 2022, a system for predicting tire characteristics using machine learning. After that, Nexen developed its own virtual design system for new tire products.

In 2024, Nexen also introduced AI-based automated quality control, which is expected to enhance the competitiveness of the tire manufacturer, and in 2025, it began operating a high-performance driving simulator used in virtual tire design, with the company claiming to be the first in the Korean tire industry to adopt such equipment.

"The tire development process, which requires thousands of simulations and large-scale data analysis, is being radically changed with the introduction of artificial intelligence," Nexen said. "We continue to adopt new technologies and strengthen our competitiveness in terms of product quality, while creating an environment where all employees, not just research staff, use AI".
