The German automobile club AvD resumed tire tests
The Automobile Club of Germany (AvD), the third-largest automobile club in the country after ADAC and ACE, has announced that after a 50-year hiatus, it will resume conducting tire tests with the aim of "providing valuable advice to drivers and improving safety on German roads."
AvD had tested tires until the 1970s, and now the club has resumed this practice in partnership with the specialized company Tempotire, which provides tire testing services. The club promises that modernized testing methods will be used, and the rating system will be transparent and easy to understand.
Not long ago, AvD completed its first comprehensive test, comparing the characteristics of all-season tires, and the results will be made public soon, providing information on such tire parameters as traction on snow, wet and dry asphalt, braking efficiency, comfort, and rolling resistance. Ratings will be awarded on a five-point system, and particularly recommended tires will receive a new AvD quality mark.
"By resuming tire tests, AvD will provide its members with practically relevant information that contributes to improving road safety," noted Lutz Leif Lindemann, President of AvD. "Tires are the only link between the vehicle and the road surface and an important component that directly affects safety, especially in changing weather conditions. Our reliable data will help drivers make more informed decisions when purchasing tires."
AvD plans to conduct tests regularly, adding new vehicle classes and tire sizes, and Tempotire is called the most experienced and technically equipped provider of tire testing services in Germany.
