Disadvantages of low profile
A low-profile tire is, without a doubt, beautiful. Many car owners try to choose wheels with a more pronounced pattern and specifically strive for a lower profile height. The advantage, in essence, consists of two key properties. The first one we've already mentioned is the appearance. But we can't forget about the advantage of higher handling and maneuverability of the car. Due to the low elasticity of the sidewall, the car becomes more responsive even to the smallest changes in the steering wheel position. That's why enthusiasts of fast driving prefer such tires.
It's also worth noting that car manufacturers of vehicles with sports characteristics often prefer tires with a higher profile during the winter equipment of the car. There are several reasons for this.
Firstly, tires with a higher profile have improved passability in snow. Additionally, on the road, even with the most thorough clearing, various irregularities and small snow accumulations appear. In this case, of course, the comfort of handling suffers.
But there's also one factor that is dictated to us by the realities of our roads. As the winter season comes to an end, the quality of the roads significantly deteriorates due to the appearance of potholes and other asphalt damage. No matter what, we drive on winter tires all spring, and the chances of damaging low-profile tires significantly increase.
This is another factor in favor of following the manufacturer's recommendations.
