Michelin to cut 1500 jobs in France
Michelin has informed its unions that over the next three years, as part of a reorganization of its French workforce, it plans to cut 1,500 jobs through voluntary departures only. The cuts will affect 1,000 customer service staff and 500 production workers, with the company citing a "highly unstable economic environment", increased competition, and "heightened macroeconomic and geopolitical tensions" as reasons.
In addition, the decision was influenced by factors such as significant regulatory constraints in France, high production costs related to labor and energy costs, and "tax pressure, which is one of the highest among industrialized countries".
Michelin emphasizes that France will continue to be of strategic importance to the company. Currently, the tire manufacturer's workforce in the country numbers 17,000 people, and the company plans to continue hiring. France is home to Michelin's headquarters, the company's main research center, and 13 production sites.
Over the past 10 years, Michelin has invested almost €4 billion in France, the company adds, noting that numerous projects have been implemented, such as the opening of the Innovation Park in Clermont-Ferrand, created on the site of the historic factory.
