Michelin has developed new tires for construction equipment

Michelin is launching new Michelin XHA3 tyres onto the global market, which the company says have been developed in response to increasingly powerful construction machinery, faster work cycles, and the critical importance of minimizing downtime. The new tyre is suitable for use on loaders, articulated dump trucks, and graders in a wide range of conditions—from asphalt to mud, including aggressive environments—offering versatility that simplifies fleet management for heavy equipment.

Compared to the Michelin XHA2, the XHA3 offers up to a 20% longer service life. Michelin also reports improvements in stability and ride comfort, while the tyre’s universal design enhances its suitability for retreading.

One standout feature of the XHA3 is that it is the first tyre equipped with Michelin Visual Pressure Control—a pressure monitoring system that Michelin is preparing to patent. According to the manufacturer, the new visual indicators allow operators to check tyre pressure without electronic devices, sensors, or external monitoring systems. A simple visual inspection enables quick identification of whether pressure adjustment is needed.

The tyres also feature a tread design with increased rubber volume, reducing maintenance needs and extending service life. Additionally, a reinforced bead area enables the tyres to withstand high torque, while load capacity has increased by up to 20%, depending on the size. A new tread pattern with four rows of blocks and an optimized shoulder radius improves traction across various surfaces. Overall cost of ownership is reduced by 16% compared to previous-generation tyres.

According to Jan Hörlin, Vice President of Marketing at Michelin North America, developers used proven technologies when creating the tyres, elevating their performance to meet evolving customer demands. “Construction equipment continues to evolve, and tyres must perform under higher loads and longer operating cycles while maintaining equipment productivity,” he added. “The XHA3 tyres are designed to help customers increase operational efficiency and confidently transport heavy loads, while reducing costs thanks to extended tyre life.”

Michelin XHA3 tyres will be available worldwide in sizes 23.5R25, 26.5R25, and 29.5R25. Within the brand’s lineup, they replace models such as XHA2, XADN+, XAD65, and XLD, making them Michelin’s most significant development in this segment in over a decade.
