Michelin to Enhance Efficiency of Brembo's "Smart" Braking System
Companies Brembo, the world's leading manufacturer of automotive braking systems, and Michelin, the leader of the global tire market, have signed a cooperation agreement to "fully unlock the potential of their intellectual solutions, carry out revolutionary changes in vehicle characteristics and offer drivers the highest standards of safety and comfort".
The goal of the project is to increase the efficiency of Brembo's innovative Sensify braking system through continuous transmission of tire grip data, which will be provided by software created by Michelin.
Michelin notes that they have developed a package of digital solutions that can provide the vehicle's electronic systems with data on tire wear (SmartWear), loads (SmartLoad), and grip (SmartGrip) in real-time, and are suitable for use with tires of any brand. In turn, the Sensify braking system "combines components from Brembo, whose quality is known worldwide, with a digital 'brain' that uses artificial intelligence, algorithms, and sensors for independent control of each wheel".

Currently, Michelin is paying great attention to digital technologies, and modeling, as well as special software, are the most important tools for monitoring the condition of tires in real-time. Together with Brembo, we are creating a unique solution for the cars of the future, which are now being developed by manufacturers".
The partners have already conducted initial tests, combining their solutions. At the first stage, the tests were carried out in a virtual environment, and at the second stage - in real-world conditions at Michelin's research center, and the company says that the results obtained with the help of simulation technologies were confirmed at the test site.
As the tests have shown, the reduction in braking distance when ABS is enabled can be up to 4 meters, which is close to the average length of a car. The tests were carried out on dry and wet surfaces using new and worn-out tires, and braking was performed at 50, 90, 110, and 130 km/h.
In addition, a faster response of the braking system, improved lateral stability, and absence of wheel lockup were recorded, all of which contribute to safer and more comfortable driving.
