Michelin recalls defective tires for truck cranes

A recall of BFGoodrich Crane Control tires, size 445/95 R25, for truck cranes has begun in the European market, due to a manufacturing defect that can cause a ring-shaped crack to form in the lower part of the sidewalls, creating a risk of sudden loss of pressure, both while driving and when the vehicle is stationary, as reported by the German branch of Michelin.

The recalled tires were produced at Michelin's plant in Montceau-les-Mines (France) until March 2024. "Production was stopped last year, and all tires produced from 2019 to 2024 are being recalled," the company noted, adding that the tires were only offered on the secondary market and were not available in the primary equipment sector. Michelin also emphasizes that they have no data on any of the recalled tires failing during operation.

In late March, Michelin notified dealers about the recall, through which the replacement of defective tires will be carried out. As an alternative, Michelin X Crane+ tires, also developed specifically for truck cranes, will be offered.

The company did not specify the exact number of tires to be recalled, while the media reports that it concerns 3,100 tires that have entered the markets of 31 countries.
