Michelin will not release special tires for electric cars

Last year, Michelin presented a strategy that includes special tires for electric vehicles. As Gary Gauthier, senior vice president of Michelin, explained, the strategy is to design all the company's tires so that they can be used with equal efficiency on both electric cars and vehicles with internal combustion engines.

Other well-known manufacturers, such as Bridgestone and Continental, also follow this approach, while, for example, Hankook releases special tires for electric vehicles. At the same time, Michelin itself has e.Primacy and Pilot Sport EV tires in its range, and regarding these models, Gauthier noted that they were both created according to specific specifications for the original equipment sector and are not tires specifically designed for electric vehicles in general.

Last spring, Auto Bild reported that the Michelin Pilot Sport EV would be withdrawn from the market just three years after its release, and Gauthier confirmed this information.

He also noted that the name e.Primacy is often misinterpreted. "The 'e' stands for special energy efficiency, not that the tires are designed for electric cars," Gauthier said, adding that a new version of this model will undoubtedly appear in the future, but it is likely to be called something other than e.Primacy 2 to avoid misunderstandings about the name.
