Michelin invests in Polish plant

After Michelin decided to halt the production of truck tires at its plant in Olsztyn, Poland, concerns arose that the company might completely shut down the facility, which was established in 1967. However, as reported by wyborcza.pl, production will not only be preserved but also expanded.

The cessation of truck tire production in Olsztyn was announced in November 2024, with the company noting that the decision was made due to the need to reduce expenses and the outdated state of the infrastructure. Production will be relocated to sites in Spain, Italy, and Romania.

As recently confirmed by the company, the plant will not be completely closed, and one of the largest investment projects in the region will be implemented on its premises. A modern production hall will be built on the site of the closed lines, with the investment totaling 1 billion zlotys (240 million euros).

"As part of the new investments, we are launching a project called 'Gambit,' which will involve the modernization of passenger car and van tire production to produce products with a diameter of 17 inches and above," said Piotr Staszalek, PR manager of Michelin's Polish division, adding that work has already begun and is expected to be completed next year.

Polish media outlets note that Michelin's decision to maintain production in Olsztyn is significant, as the tire manufacturer has been one of the largest employers in the region for many years. Local authorities "expressed satisfaction with the company's decision, emphasizing its importance for the city's future."
