Yokohama motorsport manager dies in traffic accident
On July 12, Simon Clarke, motorsport manager at Yokohama HPT (the British branch of the Japanese tire manufacturer), died in a motorcycle accident, the company reported.
"It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved, respected, and highly valued colleague," the company said in a statement. "Over three decades with Yokohama, Simon became an integral part of our motorsport teams in Britain and Europe. His extensive experience and passion for motorsport formed the foundation of countless initiatives across numerous national and international championships, and his expertise was so highly regarded that the company's head office regularly consulted him during major European events."
"Simon will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him," the company added.
Clarke began working at Yokohama HPT in 1993 and for many years led tire development for British car manufacturers, as well as heading the expert group responsible for creating tires for regional motorsport.
"Simon was a wonderful colleague and close friend to many employees at Yokohama UK, the entire Yokohama family, and many others in the tire and motorsport industries. Above all, he was a devoted family man who greatly cherished his holidays and time spent with friends," the company stated, adding, "At this sad time, we extend our deepest condolences to Simon's family."
