Maxxis releases new semi-slicks

Maxxis has introduced a new semi-slick tire, the Maxxis Victra Sport VR2, to the US market, designed for use on both racing tracks and public roads. The VR2 replaces the Maxxis Victra VR-1, and the manufacturer claims that the new tire features improved traction and lateral stability on dry surfaces, while maintaining the same high level of speed and handling on the edge of grip. 

It is also noted that the special compound helps the tires to quickly reach their operating temperature and enhances grip on dry surfaces, while the silica in the rubber mixture increases the tire's efficiency in rainy weather, which is also contributed by the transverse 3D grooves and slits in the ribs that break the water film on the road surface. Additionally, the tread pattern with two main and one additional longitudinal channels (2+1 scheme) is optimized to reduce the risk of aquaplaning, while the wide outer shoulder improves the response to driver actions and lateral stability, and the two central ribs stabilize the contact with the asphalt and increase the efficiency of acceleration and braking. 

The tire's design, according to the company, has been modified to increase track stability while maintaining a good level of comfort on the road and includes a reinforced sidewall area, two high-strength metal cord breakers, and an additional layer of spirally wound nylon. Additionally, the high curl of the carcass edges has increased the tire's lateral stiffness, making the reactions to steering wheel turns even more precise and faster compared to the VR-1. 

The Maxxis Victra Sport VR2 will be offered in 19 sizes with diameters from 15 to 19 inches, and the target group is track day enthusiasts using cars such as the Mazda MX5, Toyota 86, Subaru BRZ, and others.
