Maxxis presented a new tire for electric vehicles
On April 17-18, at the Dapeng Bay International Circuit in Pingtung (Taiwan), the presentation of the new Maxxis Victra Sport EV+ (VS-EV+) tires took place, which were developed specifically for sports electric cars.
According to the company, the novelty was developed in response to the rapid development of the electric vehicle market, and compared to the previous generation tires - Maxxis Victra Sport EV, presented in 2022 - driving qualities on dry and wet surfaces were improved by 5 and 10%, respectively, while rolling resistance, noise level and wear resistance remained at the same level. In addition, the tires are designed for powerful large electric cars and have been improved to handle increased loads associated with high torque and vehicle mass in the target group.

Like the previous model, the novelty has a pattern executed according to the 3+1 scheme, that is, three wide longitudinal channels and one narrower groove in the outer zone are provided. Due to this, the rigidity of the outer section of the tread and stability when cornering on a dry road are increased. In addition, compared to the VS-EV, the central and outer supporting ribs have become solid, which should also improve handling on dry surfaces.

In the inner rib, there are lightning-shaped grooves with sloping walls, whose task is to cut through the water film and enhance grip on a wet surface, and their depth has been increased to keep liquid drainage fast at a high level of wear. In addition, the inner shoulder area has a closed design, which reduces noise generated when the tire hits the road surface, and the tires are also made using Maxxis Silent technology, that is, sound-absorbing material in the design reduces cavity noise, improving acoustic comfort in various speed modes.

To ensure a long service life of the tires, a special rubber compound is used, and engineers have also worked to make the pressure distribution in the contact patch even, which prevents uneven wear and increases the tread resource.

Currently, Maxxis VS-EV+ tires are produced in Taiwan and have entered the market in seven sizes from 235/45 R18 to 275/35 R21, and the size range is selected so that the tires can be installed in a wide configuration on the Tesla Model 3 Performance and Model Y Performance. In addition, the novelty is also designed for owners of the BMW iX1 and iX2, Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, etc., and in the future, the size range will be expanded.
