Maxxis introduces summer tires with "ultra-high" tread life

Maxxis has launched new summer tyres Maxxis Megarock MR6 on the Chinese market, designed for family cars and primarily distinguished from previous-generation models by their increased service life.

According to the company, many car owners would like to replace their tyres less frequently to reduce costs, but they may be concerned that increased wear resistance often comes at the expense of a harsher ride and reduced wet grip. For this reason, during the development of the new tyres, engineers aimed not only to extend service life, but also to enhance both comfort and safety. Additionally, the growing number of electric vehicles on the roads—posing new specific demands on tyres—was also taken into account.

The Megarock MR6 features an increased tread width and deeper grooves, enhancing mileage. The wear resistance index is rated at 660, and the manufacturer claims the tyres can last 17% longer than previous-generation models. 3D sipes have been added to the tread pattern, which, combined with optimized load distribution in the contact patch, ensure more even wear—improving both tyre longevity and handling stability over extended use.

Since the tyres are also intended for use on electric vehicles, which typically have higher weight, the new model features a reinforced construction (marked XL) across all sizes, increasing strength and load-carrying capacity. Additionally, the groove design has been refined to enhance tread block rigidity, helping to reduce rolling resistance and, consequently, fuel or electric energy consumption.

Safety remained a top priority during development, as always. The tyre features a tread pattern with four wide longitudinal grooves designed to quickly evacuate water from the contact area. The manufacturer states that, according to test results, wet braking performance has improved by 5–7%. Furthermore, attention was paid to reducing body roll in corners and improving ride smoothness, especially on uneven surfaces.

Acoustic comfort is also important for family car owners. The semi-closed shoulder blocks help block airflow between the main and lateral grooves, reducing road noise.

Maxxis Megarock MR6 is now available in 32 sizes ranging from 205/60 R16 to 255/50 R20, with speed ratings H and V (up to 210 and 240 km/h, respectively).
