The Dunlop brand returns to the bicycle tire market

Sumitomo has made the decision to bring back the Dunlop brand to the bicycle tire market, which is a return to its roots, as the first commercially successful pneumatic tire, invented by John Boyd Dunlop in 1887, was intended for bicycles, and the tire brand was named after him.

The first to go on sale will be two mountain bike tires, developed using the company's years of experience participating in motocross and supercross championships. The line is called Geomax, following the example of Dunlop's cross-country tires, and includes the Geomax MB34 and Geomax MB53 tires, both of which are suitable for trail, enduro, and downhill, but have their own characteristics. The front and rear tires of both models have different designs, created with the specific features of mountain biking in mind, and the emphasis, according to the manufacturer, was on reliable traction and predictable behavior, allowing riders to feel confident at high speeds.

"This project is based on the same ideas that we use in motocross and supercross," said Chad Gier, Marketing Director of Dunlop Tires North America (DTNA). "We applied the same approach to ensuring traction, control during braking, and grip during maneuvers, which allowed us to win championships at the highest level, and the result was tires with predictable and stable behavior at high speeds."

The Dunlop Geomax MB34 is designed for maximum traction and control in aggressive terrain conditions, with an emphasis on stability during braking, handling sensitivity, and ground penetration.

In creating the Dunlop Geomax MB53, priority was given to rolling speed while maintaining predictable handling, and the tire tread patterns are designed for quick acceleration, smooth transition between surfaces, and controllability during drifts.

Both tires are made using technologies from off-road racing, such as Progressive Cornering Block Technology (PCBT), where the blocks have a stepped construction, increasing the number of gripping edges, and the arrangement of the tread lugs and the composition of the rubber compounds have been optimized to improve the balance between traction, durability, and compliance. In addition, both tires are available with two carcass options, designed for enduro and downhill, allowing you to choose the option that best suits the type of surface and riding style.
