Linglong has advanced with its Egyptian project
Linglong Tire and the Egyptian Ministry of Industry have signed a memorandum of understanding regarding the construction of a new integrated production complex in the country worth 2 billion dollars, which will supply products to both domestic and international markets and create 5,000 jobs. The plant will produce tires for passenger and commercial vehicles, as well as conveyor belts, and is also expected to manufacture tire cord and carbon black.
According to Arab News, the project is linked to Egypt's efforts to boost domestic passenger car tire production and reduce reliance on imports. Currently, the country imports around 8 million tires annually, worth 1.25 billion dollars, while local factories have historically focused primarily on producing tires for trucks, buses, and two- and three-wheeled vehicles.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Egypt's Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem and Linglong Vice Chairman Wang Lin, in the presence of Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly.
Plans for building the new tire plant were previously discussed in April of this year, when it was reported that Linglong intends to open a facility covering up to 3 million m² in Borg El Arab, including production of rubber and carbon black. It was expected that approximately 90% of the output would be exported, primarily to Gulf countries and the United States.
