Lenovo implements AI in the tire industry

On January 9 in Wuxi, China, a strategic cooperation ceremony in the field of artificial intelligence technology was held between Lenovo Group and tire company Jiangsu General Science Technology (GS), which is expected to accelerate the process of modernizing the industry.

One of the areas of cooperation will be to improve the efficiency of quality control, for which an AI-based system will be used that allows for the detection of defects in truck tires using X-ray radiation. Four stages of testing have been carried out, which have shown that the effectiveness of the development fully meets the requirements of GS, and it is expected that the new technology will reduce manual quality control costs by 60% and reduce the frequency of false-negative results by more than 80%.

The parties also intend to jointly develop AI-based technologies that will be implemented at various stages from tire production to customer service "in order to increase the automation and intelligence of the entire business process". In addition, it is planned to create a "benchmark for an innovative AI ecosystem" for the tire industry, and technologies will be used in areas such as personnel training and new product development, and in the future, the partnership is expected to "give a powerful impetus to the technological transformation and development of the entire tire industry".

In recent years, Lenovo, as the company says, has maintained its leading position in the Chinese IT services market, and its service network covers all major cities in the country. At the beginning of last year, the company introduced the first equipment for tire quality control, which allowed the company to start working in the tire industry.

GS owns tire factories in China, Thailand, and Cambodia, and the company notes that it "considers innovation as a key driver of its development", and in recent years, work has been actively underway to introduce new methods to increase productivity. Currently, GS is preparing to create its own AI technology implementation center, as well as collaborating with leading Chinese universities, such as Tsinghua University in Beijing, with the goal of "intelligent modernization of the tire industry".
