When to change to summer tires?
The sun has come out again and the April snow has started to melt. Is it already possible to switch from winter to summer tires? Almost all tire manufacturers are unanimous in their recommendations - it's worth changing when the average daily air temperature is +5 +7 C. The rubber compound of winter tires becomes softer in strong positive temperatures. In such weather, the tire becomes sloppy when turning, the braking distance on asphalt increases, and wear accelerates. But there is another important indicator, such as precipitation. Even in near-zero or positive weather, snow or rain can fall. Here, summer tires will already have a hard time. With a small plus sign on wet asphalt, the summer tire's grip is greatly reduced. And in this case, if there are still frosts in the mornings and evenings, you can find strong ice formations in the courtyards. In such a situation, it will be very difficult to accelerate or brake on summer tires. In the off-season, it's better to drive carefully on winter tires for another week, especially if they are non-studded, and change them when the spring weather is finally established.
