Chinese supercar sets new record on Giti tires

On August 8, the Chinese supercar Yangwang U9 Track Edition accelerated to 472.41 km/h on the German ATP track, becoming the fastest electric car in the world. The vehicle was piloted by professional racing driver Marc Basseng, who had already set a similar record in 2024 on the Aspark OWL SP600 electric car.

"I thought I had reached my peak last year, and I definitely didn't expect to break my own record so soon on a Chinese supercar and on the same track," Basseng said.

The Yangwang U9 Track Edition is equipped with four electric motors with a total power of 3019 hp, and the tires for it were developed by Giti in conjunction with specialists from the company that is part of BYD. As reported last year, exclusive semi-slicks Giti GitiCompete GTR1 were prepared for the U9, since "the tires initially used no longer withstood the increasingly frightening speeds of the prototype".

The tires are distinguished by an optimized profile and carcass design, and it is noted that particular attention was paid to reducing their slipping on the rim during intense acceleration and braking, which reduces torque losses, as well as improves the predictability and stability of the car during acceleration.
