Kaliningrad startup to replace imports of anhydride threads for the tire industry

In Kaliningrad, a cord will be produced that increases the strength of auto and aircraft tires. The production will be handled by LLC "Newcord", which was created by the startup studio of the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University (BFU) as part of the federal project "University Technology Entrepreneurship Platform".

The cord, which helps tires withstand loads and increases their service life, comes in different types: metal, polyester, capron, anid, and others. The startup will produce products of the latter type, namely anid cord made of polyamide, which, as noted, has a number of competitive advantages.

"According to analytical data, tires based on anid cord compared to capron cord have 20% less wear, 15% greater impact resistance, and 10% greater durability," said Georgy Molokanov, technologist at LLC "Newcord".

At the moment, anid cord is not produced in the Russian Federation, which means that the BFU project will contribute to import substitution. It is reported that work is being carried out at the Smart Textiles Polymer and Composite Materials Center with the participation of technological and scientific partners, and equipment has already been prepared for the production of the first samples of anid fibers.

According to Molokanov, the main potential consumers of the new product are manufacturers of tires for trucks and special equipment that operate in difficult conditions, as well as tires for high-speed passenger cars and aviation.

"We managed to hold the first negotiations with a number of tire manufacturers. As a result of the interviews and marketing research, we proved the high demand for the product," he noted.
