Hyundai Ioniq 9 is equipped with Hankook tires

Hankook Tire will serve as the supplier of original equipment tires for the newly unveiled all-electric Hyundai Ioniq 9 crossover. The new Hyundai flagship will be equipped with Hankook iON evo AS tires, specifically designed for electric vehicles and intended for year-round use in regions with mild climates, according to the tire manufacturer's press service. 

In Hankook, they add that the creation of the tires that went into the Ioniq 9's equipment required significant effort and a large amount of time, and the process was carried out in close cooperation with Hyundai specialists, and the iON Innovation Technology allowed for high traction with the road while reducing noise and rolling resistance, making the tires optimally suitable for the electric crossover.  

Acoustic comfort has been improved with the help of an optimized tread pattern, which reduced noise of a certain frequency by 9 dB, while a new rubber compound with a high proportion of silica and a high content of environmentally friendly materials was developed to increase traction on dry and wet surfaces, as well as in winter conditions. In addition, the 3D Grip Control Sipes lamellas improve handling in various situations, and the compound and low-temperature technology significantly reduced rolling resistance, increasing energy efficiency. The tires are also characterized by a uniform distribution of pressure in the contact patch, which prevents uneven wear, and the transverse stiffness of the tire was increased by 25%, which improved handling.

Previously, Hankook and Hyundai had already implemented joint projects in the electric car segment, and the cooperation began with the supply of tires for the Ioniq 6 sedan, after which the company also equipped the Kia EV3 and EV9 crossovers with tires. 

"In the future, the company intends to maintain its leading position in the electric vehicle tire market through advanced technologies created using our infrastructure, which includes the Technoplex headquarters, the high-tech Technodome research center, five more research centers, and the Technoring test site," the company noted.
