Hankook received the highest eco-rating from FIA

Hankook Tire & Technology has received the highest rating — three stars — under the environmental certification system of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), which was developed to encourage initiatives to reduce environmental harm in racing and the mobility sector as a whole. 

In assigning the rating, factors such as energy consumption, logistics efficiency, waste management, and carbon neutrality programs are taken into account. Hankook received three stars for its active participation in environmental initiatives aimed at combating climate change, among other things, as the official sponsor and exclusive tire supplier for the Formula E electric car racing championship.

Hankook is also striving to make the entire process of creating, operating, and recycling tires for FE more environmentally friendly, from sourcing raw materials to production, transportation, and disposal, and at all stages, the company claims, "new carbon footprint tracking standards are being observed".

In Hankook, they add that in general, they are tirelessly working to reduce environmental harm, and, for example, in 2021, the plant in Geumsan (South Korea) was the first in the tire industry to receive the ISCC Plus environmental certificate, and in October 2023, it was also awarded to the production complex in Hungary. In addition, in August 2023, Hankook became the first Korean tire company whose medium- and long-term goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 were approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Hankook became the tire supplier for Formula E in the 2022/2023 season, replacing Michelin in this position.
