Goodyear closed their plant in South Africa

In June, Goodyear announced plans to close its tire plant in South Africa. Over the next few weeks, the local Department of Trade, Industry and Competition sought to avert the closure, with department representative Yamkela Fani pointing to the possibility of a deal similar to the agreement with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) reached to prevent job losses at ArcelorMittal. However, two months later, on August 15, it was reported that Goodyear had officially closed the doors of its Kariyet plant after 78 years of operation.
