Goodyear introduced a new tire made from environmentally friendly materials

Goodyear has unveiled at a sustainability forum held as part of the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) its new Goodyear ElectricDrive Sustainable-Material (EDS) tire, which is made from over 70% sustainable materials.

The innovation, which will be the first tire on the Chinese market to receive the ISCC eco-certification, is specifically designed for electric vehicles and, according to the manufacturer, provides both optimal handling on wet roads and reduced noise levels, as well as improved energy efficiency.

The production of Goodyear EDS uses "green" materials such as technical carbon derived from old tires and recycled polyester. The tires will be available on the Chinese Tmall platform in December and will be rolled out to other Asia-Pacific markets in the first quarter of 2025.

Speaking at CIIE, Goodyear's Asia Pacific president, Nathalie Madarang, confirmed that by 2030, the company aims to be the first in the industry to launch tires made 100% from sustainable materials.

In 2024, Goodyear is celebrating its 30th anniversary in China, and during CIIE, the company received an honorary certificate in recognition of its efforts to develop mobility and reduce environmental harm.

"Goodyear's innovative spirit puts us at the forefront of the mobility revolution that is currently underway, and we are collaborating with customers and innovators to shape its course," Madarang noted. "We look forward to seeing what the future of mobility will be and are excited to contribute to this process by improving the performance of our tires."
