General Science plans to expand its capacity beyond China
Chinese company Jiangsu General Technology Co. (General Science) is considering opening new tire factories abroad to further expand its presence in the international market. This was announced after GS reported a fourfold increase in profit in the first half of 2024, including due to investments in factories in Thailand and Cambodia.
The company notes that they are "actively seeking opportunities for development in the domestic Chinese and global markets", and the new production outside of China will allow them to meet the existing demand and improve the competitiveness of the tire company.
Last year, GS actively increased its capacity, and in particular, the plant in Sihanoukville (Cambodia) was expanded, just four months after its launch. Production started in May 2024, by June its volumes were increased to 900 thousand commercial and 5 million passenger tires, and in August, lines with a capacity of 750 thousand commercial and 3.5 million passenger tires were launched.
GS is also expanding the production of passenger tires in Thailand. It is expected that the production of passenger tires will be increased by 10 million units per year, and the company plans to complete the project next year. In China, a new production of tires for passenger cars was also launched at the plant in Wuxi, where the company's headquarters is located.
