The EU has launched an anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese passenger car tires
On November 6, the European Commission launched an anti-subsidy investigation into tires for passenger cars, light trucks, and minibuses from China, stating that there is sufficient evidence that Chinese manufacturers are deriving an "unfair benefit" from the country's government support. Since May 2025, an anti-dumping investigation has also been conducted regarding the import of Chinese tires of the same categories.
Both investigations were initiated at the request of the Coalition Against Unfair Tyre Imports, which brings together tire manufacturers from the EU. Their petition states that since 2021, imports of Chinese tires to the region have grown by 51%, and products are offered at prices 30-65% lower than those of European companies' tires, resulting in a decline in their sales.
The petitioners also point out that the subsidies received by Chinese manufacturers include grants, preferential loans, and tax breaks, as well as the provision of land and electricity supplies at below-market prices.
The Commission is to complete the investigation within 13 months and has the right to introduce temporary duties within the next nine months.
