Two sets of tires on disks. What is it dangerous for?

Despite the fact that the segment of all-season tires is developing and growing, in Russia such tires are still not very common. Nevertheless, the majority of drivers in our country understand that for comfortable and safe driving, it is necessary to use two sets of tires. One for summer and one for winter. As for the disks, buying a second set of disks is not so obvious. What is more beneficial for an ordinary car owner - to have two sets of tires on disks or to mount tires by season on one set.

Both options have the right to exist, both options have their advantages and disadvantages. A second set of disks is additional unnecessary expenses, but sometimes they are justified. When buying a new car, you will have a set of good original disks with summer tires. These original disks are usually made of high quality, well-painted and have a beautiful design. With such disks, your car will look great both in summer and in winter. If you have low-profile tires or you just want to save your disks from winter reagents and dirt, you can think about a second set of disks. If you have a mid-range car, you can buy stamped disks. They are available up to 17 inches in diameter. They are cheaper than alloy wheels, they are easier to repair if you get into a pit and bend the disk. And when buying good hubcaps, on a dirty car in winter, they will not be distinguishable from alloy wheels. Also, if you are concerned about the preservation of your low-profile tires, you can always buy disks that are one or even two inches smaller for the winter. Thus, thanks to the higher sidewall, the chances of damaging the tire and disk when getting into a pit are reduced.

We have dealt with the purchase of disks, and what about tire mounting? If you have two sets of disks, it is simplified. In most cases, you can change the wheels yourself. But here it is necessary to be careful and follow a minimum set of recommendations. It is necessary to carefully look at how to properly install tires on your car. Directed tires should always rotate in the direction of the indicators (or arrows) on the tire. And asymmetric tires should always be on the outside (the "outside" inscription) outward. The recommendations also include checking and setting the recommended pressure. As well as inspecting the wheels for damage, lost balancing weights. Balancing the assembled wheels at least once every few seasons will also help extend their lifespan.

Well, of course, the most important question is storage. Here, the main recommendations are common for both tires without disks and wheels with disks. It is best to store them at moderate temperatures, excluding the effects of direct sunlight and precipitation in the form of rain or snow. It is also not recommended to store them near fuel and lubricants. Tires without disks should be stored vertically. And inflated and mounted on disks, it is better to lay them horizontally in piles.

As you can see, both buying a second set of disks and using one have their pros and cons. But in any case, it is necessary to treat both tires and disks carefully, as your safety on the road depends directly on them. And which option to choose personally, you decide based on your wishes and wallet.
