On March 21, the new season of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) will kick off. And in the new season, the BMW Rahal Letterman Racing Team for their racing cars BMW M3 after extensive winter testing chose new sports tires Dunlop. The BMW Rahal Letterman Racing Team is considered one of the strongest in the ALMS GT2 class. Incidentally, this team is a factory team for BMW.
Martin Birkman, BMW's North American motorsport manager, said: "In the first ALMS season in 1975, our BMW CSL cars were shod with Dunlop tires, and we are very pleased to resume our cooperation."
"The partnership between Dunlop and BMW Rahal Letterman Racing Team is very pleasing to us. We are confident that our tires will allow our partner to achieve great heights in the current season," said Gary Wassell, head of the engineering group of Dunlop's motorsport division.
In recent months, the BMW Rahal Letterman Racing Team, together with Dunlop, has been conducting active testing to get the optimal settings for the ALMS races for their BMW M3 cars.
Todd Hershberger, brand director of Dunlop's North American division, stated that BMW and Dunlop share a philosophy of participating in racing, where cars very close to the consumer market compete. "Every success in racing can be applied to the production of consumer products. This is why successful Dunlop Direzza and Sport Maxx racing tires are now being fitted as original equipment on many cars," explained Mr. Hershberger. "In the ALMS GT2 class, cars that are as close as possible to street cars participate. We know that car owners value excellent quality, and that's why we believe that the partnership between Dunlop and BMW in the ALMS races will allow us to achieve it."
The team's drivers for 2009 will be: Bill Auberlen, Joey Hand, Tommy Milner, and Dirk Müller.
