Continental has revealed details about its new Continental Conti EfficientPro 5 tires, designed to maximize fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions for long-distance freight transportation.

"By launching these new tires, we're helping our customers achieve their goals of reducing harmful emissions, lowering operating costs, and preparing for the electrification of the industry," said Hinrich Kaizer, Head of Development at Continental in EMEA, adding that "the development process was very intense, and now Conti EfficientPro 5 represents a solution that fully meets the current requirements of the transportation industry."

The new tires are made from a rubber compound with an increased proportion of silica, produced using the vec2Sil technology, which, according to the manufacturer, provides simultaneous reduction of rolling resistance and increased service life, reducing fleet operating costs. Additionally, according to Kaizer, the tires "provide excellent traction on wet roads and reliable handling throughout their lifespan," and since electric trucks are becoming more widespread, the load index has been increased.

A Continental representative also added that "the combination of reduced rolling resistance and extended service life makes these tires unique," while the tread patterns were designed to improve handling and braking efficiency, including on waterlogged or snow-covered roads. Thanks to their low rolling resistance, the tires help vehicle manufacturers comply with EU Regulations 2019/2400 and 2019/1241, and Kaizer emphasizes that they are the first in their segment to be designed with particular attention to the characteristics of electric vehicles.

"With their high load-carrying capacity and reinforced breaker layers, the tires provide the necessary stability and safety even when transporting heavy loads," he said. "The tires are ideal for fleet managers who value both energy efficiency and safety and are already transitioning to electric mobility."

The Conti EfficientPro HS 5 tires for the steering axle are available in sizes 315/70 R22.5 and 385/55 R22.5, while the Conti EfficientPro HD 5 model for drive wheels is available in size 315/70 R22.5.
