Continental releases a new tire for crossovers

The Asian market has introduced a new summer tire, the Continental UltraContact UX7, specifically designed for those who use their crossovers or SUVs in urban conditions.

Crossovers have increased mass and a higher center of gravity compared to passenger cars, so tires must handle increased loads and provide optimal stability. The new tire is made using the X-Force Macroblocks technology and features a wide contact patch with uniform pressure distribution, which improves handling, including when driving on uneven surfaces and gravel roads, while the Aqua Channels lamellas quickly direct water into the tread grooves, reducing the risk of aquaplaning.

The tires are made with Adaptive Diamond Compound rubber, which, according to the manufacturer, effectively converts kinetic energy into heat, reducing braking distances on both wet and dry surfaces. The company also adds that the polymer chains in the compound form a strong network, which improves wear resistance and reduces the risk of cuts.

The Continental UltraContact UX7 also features a Robust360 Construction with an reinforced metal cord, which reduces deformations, improves shock absorption while rolling, and prevents tire damage.

Since acoustic comfort is important when driving in urban streets, and on electric crossovers, in the absence of engine noise, the sounds made by the tires are even more noticeable, the tread pattern of the new Continental has been specially developed to reduce vibrations and improve noise reduction. Thus, special Noise Breaker 3.0 protrusions are located in the grooves, which scatter sound waves, reducing the noise that enters the cabin and making the ride more comfortable.

Compared to the previous model (Continental UltraContact UC6 SUV), there has been a significant improvement in acoustic comfort, as well as braking properties, fuel efficiency, and handling on dry roads.

"The crossover market has been growing rapidly in recent years and is expected to continue growing in the future," said Dalibor Kalina, head of the Continental passenger tire division in the Asia-Pacific region. "The new UltraContact UX7 tire provides maximum stability and comfort in all situations, from everyday use in the city to weekend trips to nature."

In Japan, the UltraContact UX7 will be available from April 1 in sizes from 215/65 R16 to 295/35 R21, meaning the tires will suit both small crossovers and large SUVs.
