Continental introduced a test vehicle for braking tires
The company Continental has introduced a new fully electric driverless test vehicle for measuring the braking characteristics of passenger car tires with the aim of further reducing stopping distances to increase safety.
Located at the company's Contidrom test site near Hanover, Germany, the fully automated vehicle, known as the Analytic Vehicle AIBA (AVA), allows the tire manufacturer to conduct tests that precisely control the friction properties of tires during braking on both dry and wet roads.
The Continental AVA combines the benefits of a vehicle-independent testing method with the controlled and reproducible test environment of an automated indoor braking analyzer (AIBA). Using the new system, Continental's tire test experts can now conduct tests independently of the specific characteristics of a vehicle.
"Our Analytic Vehicle AVA helps us to analyze the characteristics of our premium tires even more closely and develop them systematically," said Boris Mergell, head of research and development in the Tires sector at Continental.
