Continental recalls nearly seven thousand crossover tires

Continental will conduct a voluntary recall of 6,985 tires for crossovers, SUVs, and pickup trucks under the Continental and General Tire brands, manufactured between weeks 40 and 41 of 2024 at the plant in Sumter (South Carolina, USA), due to the fact that the non-compliant rubber compound of the sidewall layer creates a risk of partial or complete separation of the tread.

The recall affects Continental TerrainContact H/T tires (size LT265/60 R20), Continental CrossContact LX25 (235/60 R18) and General Grabber HTS60 (LT245/75 R17), as well as Continental CrossContact RX (275/40 R21), made using the ContiSeal technology, which allows them to self-seal punctures. The tires were also supplied to General Motors.

A partial separation of the tread from the CrossContact RX ContiSeal tire was reported to the manufacturer by GM in late August 2025, and since a visual inspection showed possible inadequate adhesion to the sidewall layer, a more detailed analysis was carried out, which revealed that a rubber compound with an incorrect sulfur level had been used. After that, the decision to recall was made.

Continental notes that so far, the company has received two defective tires (one from the US and one from Canada), and the manufacturer has no data on the recalled tires causing any accidents. All tires will be replaced free of charge.
