Continental has found a buyer for the ContiTech division

Continental announced that it will sell its ContiTech division, which produces RTI, to the investment company Lone Star Funds for 4 billion euros. The impending deal will be the final stage of the reorganization of the German concern, which after its closure will produce only tire products.

"The sale of ContiTech marks the beginning of a new era for Continental as a company that specializes exclusively in tire production," said Continental CEO Christian Koetz, adding that, as previously announced, part of the revenue from the sale of the division will go to shareholders, and the company will also "continue to strengthen its capital structure".

ContiTech produces conveyor belts, drive belts, and so on, and has around 22,000 employees worldwide. In 2025, sales volumes were around 4.4 billion euros, and its products are used in various industries, such as the automotive, mining, furniture, printing, and packaging industries, as well as in energy and construction.

Regarding the prospects of its tire business, Continental says that, despite market instability, the company's tire division continues to show stable growth rates in recent years due to "efficient processes, customer orientation, and a strong technology portfolio". Currently, the tire division of Continental, which includes 19 plants, employs around 55,000 people.

The main product is tires for passenger cars, which accounted for 77% of Continental Tire's sales last year. A significant portion of the company's revenue still comes from the European market (the EMEA region - Europe, Middle East, and Africa - accounted for 53% in 2025), and globally, the secondary market is key (76% of sales). The company notes that it has taken particularly good positions in the segment of tires with a diameter of 18 inches or more, which accounts for 55% of passenger car tire sales and 62% of all tire sales under the Continental brand, with demand continuing to grow. In addition, the strategic markets for future growth are currently Asia and North America.

In September 2025, Continental transformed its automotive electronics business into a separate structure, which was later listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange under the name Aumovio. In February 2026, the company also sold the ContiTech division, which produced products for the OE sector.
